Is Mum Safe in the Bath?

5 Signs it’s time to consider a mobility shower

As our parents age, we start to notice the little things: slower movements, more caution on the stairs, or a hesitation before stepping into the bath. One of the most dangerous places in the home for older adults? The bathroom.

Slippery surfaces, high tub walls, and a lack of support can turn a simple shower into a serious risk. If you’ve been wondering whether it’s time to make a change, here are five signs that your parent’s bathroom may no longer be safe — and what you can do about it.

 1. They Avoid Bathing or Showering

If your parent is skipping showers or making excuses, it might not be about hygiene — it could be fear. The risk of slipping or falling can make bathing feel overwhelming. A mobility shower with a low threshold and built-in seat can restore confidence and comfort.

2. You Notice Bruises or Minor Injuries

Small bruises on arms or legs may be signs of slips or near-falls. Many older adults won’t mention these incidents out of pride or fear of losing independence. A safer shower setup can prevent minor accidents from becoming major ones.

 3. They Struggle to Step Over the Tub

Traditional bathtubs require lifting a leg over a high edge — a challenge for anyone with limited mobility, arthritis, or balance issues. Walk-in showers eliminate this barrier entirely, making entry and exit effortless.

 4. They Use Make-Shift Supports

Are they holding onto towel rails, leaning on the sink, or using a plastic chair in the shower? These are red flags. Properly installed grab bars, non-slip flooring, and purpose-built seating are essential for safety.

 5. You’re Losing Sleep Worrying about Them

If you find yourself constantly checking in, worrying about falls, or feeling anxious every time they bathe alone — it’s time to act. You deserve peace of mind, and they deserve a bathroom that supports their independence.

Space saving frameless quadrant door

For the perfect small bathroom showering solution you need a quadrant shower enclosure. They feature a much reduced footprint size when compared with a rectangular tray and because the tray is smaller the glass panels are smaller giving you much less to wipe down during cleaning. The frameless design also creates the feel of more space, boasting with minimalist style.

Frameless design

Frameless shower enclosures have a high-end look and a minimalistic design style, requiring only wall channels to fix to your bathroom walls. They make your bathroom look and feel bigger while taking up the same amount of space as a framed enclosure.

Polished aluminium wall channels

The wall channels are made from aluminium so they’re light for easier installation. The aluminium is then polished to give you a stylish finish that is sure to complement the rest of your bathroom.

Top door rollers & bottom guide system

These 8mm shower doors need to operate easily and smoothly which is why they’re fitted with high-quality rollers mounted at the top and then a clever guide system at the bottom. They use stainless steel & aerospace grade plastic parts to create rollers that are silky smooth and they even have a quick release mechanism on the bottom guide, for easy cleaning of the panels. The wheels have been tested by 20,000 openings which equates to nearly 55 years of daily showers!

Extra tall 1950mm glass panels

Standard shower enclosure panels tend to be 1750 – 1800mm high, but these are a full 1950mm high giving you extra splash protection and a fantastic high-end look.

8mm thick thermally toughened safety glass

The 8mm glass used is of the highest standard. It conforms to EN12150-1 meaning that it’s been rigorously tested and thermally toughened for superior safety and strength.

Easy clean glass panels

A special coating has been applied to the glass panels to ensure cleaning is fast and easy. A simple wipe down will bring back crystal clear glass time and time again.

Adjustable profiles for uneven walls

It’s quite common for homes to have walls which aren’t quite true or straight which is why these stunning wall channels come with an added 15mm of adjustability to ensure everything is fitted neatly.

Hidden wall fixings

Being our flagship model these beautiful shower enclosures benefit from concealed fixings for a seriously stylish and streamline look. You won’t even have to worry about those pesky screw cap covers being on display!

Designer stainless steel handles

Stainless steel is a great material to use in the bathroom due to its high-end look and rustproof properties which is exactly why it’s used for these handles. They’re sleek, stylish and blend perfectly with the rest of your bathroom.

High-quality CE marked product These shower enclosures are built to an extremely high standard. They’re CE tested to comply with BS EN 14428 meaning they’ve been put through rigorous testing for use on the UK marketoduct Details
